We ate here on a weekly basis before moving to Orlando. Soup is really good, salad is yummy, gyoza is addictive. Scotty service and cooking is always excellent. My daughter and I always share the filet mignon. The rice and veggies are good too. I really miss this restaurant. We ate at Kobe Steakhouse in Orlando tonight and it was gross.

I never wrote a review on Yelp before but this place just gave me a reason to. My fiancé and I are originally from New Orleans and currently reside here in West Monroe. We both used to work in a Japanese restaurant for many years, so we pretty much know how this type of cuisine works. Let me just say, our experience was horrible! Being a server ourselves, we usually understand for other servers as well. However, this was a whole 'nother story.
First, we walked in for dinner and the hostess just stared at us, no greetings or anything. After I told her it was dinner for two at a regular table, she sat us down with only one menu. Then, the server came and got our drink orders. He came back serving our drinks with his fingers around the rim of our cups. Gross. What if I didn't want to drink from the straw but from the glass itself? Who knows how clean his hands are.
Onto the ordering. We ordered tuna tataki, which didn't taste fresh at all. It was warm and rubbery. We also ordered two rolls, a spicy salmon roll (spicy chopped salmon and cucumbers) and an Addy roll (shrimp tempura, cream cheese, and crawfish inside, topped with baked salmon). I thought you can't go wrong with something as simple as those ingredients in those rolls but obviously it can go wrong. Even soy sauce didn't help. Lastly, we ordered a shrimp and scallops hibachi dinner. It was ok, nothing special. The server didn't give us any small sharing plates, no utensils, no napkins, no sauces that's supposed to come with the food, nor the clear soup that came with the meal. I had to ask for it and when he finally brought the soup to me, there was no spoon. How was I supposed to eat it? Sip it?
We didn't finish our food like how we normally would. I decided to ask for a small togo box to take the leftover shrimp and scallops but the server was no where to be found. I decided to go grab one myself and guess where it was? The togo boxes were placed under the spot where the servers put dirty plates. GROSS!
If you're from a city like us and know your Japanese cuisine, don't waste your time and money here. I usually don't complain about service and pricing but for how much we spent on this meal was a waste. I have no problem paying for a high tab if it was worth it but for that, it was not worth it at all. With us being servers, we know how it feels to be one. When it comes to tipping, we always tip well. Even if the service was bad, we'd still leave a twenty percent tip. However, this has to be the first time I ever tipped someone fifteen percent. How disappointing.
As we walked out, the second hostess ignored us and didn't say anything, no goodbye, thanks, or anything. The employees here need a bit more training. It has to start somewhere, and I'd say it begins at management. Manager(s), if you're reading this, you need to step up your game. One last thing, we're home now and both of our stomachs are hurting. How ridiculous! -

My son took a date 12/27 to eat there, we go quite frequently but he came in and stated we were seated at the hibachi in the very back and the cook was the first one we've ever had that failed. The chef didn't season the food, salt and pepper. Not enough teriyaki sauce used, too much soy sauce. He doubled the eggs in the rice, usually they use 4, he used 8 which changed the rice taste. I love this place but this is the first time the meal was this bad. None of the dipping sauces were offered. The veggies in the last few times have been way to under cooked, I love a little crunch to them but the last few times they were only halfway cooked. The onions should be translucent not white. To pay $150.00 for a meal that turned out as bad as it did, wasn't pleased. I've never had an experience like that before, their food has always been superb. I don't know what happened but when I go back and it's like this again, It's a good way to lose customers. This is actually one of my favorite restaurants because I love Asian style food. I love the ginger dressing on the salad, and usually love everything about this place but something has changed. You never get the same taste. It's always different. There should be a standard recipe for cooking everything but there isn't. One night it's awesome, another night it's terrible. I think there needs to be more training of the chef's. It's not consistent. Please if you want to keep your customers happy, take heed to remedy these issues. Pay more attention to the cooking of the food.

I can understand why people will love, or hate this place. We had an enjoyable experience, the chef was personable, funny, and made the experience better. We felt some of the prices were high, and the seating arrangement may turn some people off as well. The waitress was attentive, but it would've been nice if she gave suggestions and explained the menu to us. The shrimp wasn't worth the price. Be careful not to eat all of your rice waiting for the rest of your food to be cooked, especially if you order something that the chef gets to last (chicken & scallops). Overall we may go again when we're in town, but it's not on my must have list of food places in Monroe.

First off, their sushi is wonderful. As a matter of fact, we usually fill up on that and wind up taking our hibachi dinner home in a doggie bag. My only complaint is we go npt only for the food but also enjoy watching them cook the food in front of us. Almost all the other hibachi grill cooks made it fun and entertaining, Tokyo is lacking in that area. Don't get me wrong, they do try but don't quite have it down. But the food they prepare is great and you get a lot for your money.
